Passport Photo Size Guide: Dimensions for Every Country
PicsReduce TeamOn this page
Passport and visa applications reject photos for dimension errors more often than for background color. Getting the size and aspect ratio right before submission saves reshoots and delays.
Universal 35×45 mm Standard
Most countries use the ISO/IEC standard passport photo size:
- Physical size: 35 × 45 mm
- Aspect ratio: 35:45 (7:9)
- Digital at 300 DPI: 413 × 531 pixels
- Digital at 600 DPI: 827 × 1063 pixels
Our crop tool includes a 35:45 passport preset that maintains this ratio exactly.
Country-Specific Requirements
| Country | Size (mm) | Pixels (300 DPI) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | 51 × 51 mm (2×2 in) | 600 × 600 | Square format |
| UK | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 | White or light gray background |
| EU (Schengen) | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 | 70–80% face coverage |
| India | 51 × 51 mm | 600 × 600 | White background |
| Australia | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 | Neutral expression |
Always verify current requirements on your government's official portal before submitting.
